Book Review: “What Every Woman Wishes Modern Men Knew About Women”

Posted in Books on January 21, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

Throw out the so-called “rules” and listen to the truth.

It is my opinion that this is perhaps one of the best books on this particular topic I have read. And I have read my fair share of relationship books. But unlike previous books I’ve read, which I found to be rather limiting in their messages, I found “What Every Woman Wishes…” to be more down to earth and realistic in its presentation. Sylvia D. Lucas is witty, clever, intelligent and logical as she makes many good points on topics ranging from marriage to myths surrounding gifts. This is a book I would highly recommend to all men – married, dating and single. It is that good (and important of a topic). I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Also, as a [recovering] germaphobe, the underwear story really freaked me out.

Music In The Hospital

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 20, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

25. Music In The Hospital

I never thought in all my life
That there could be a sound so fine
But I heard it at first sight
This is a moment that will shine

I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it the moment you were born
I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it when you were born

I had been alone for so long
Rebelling at things I didn’t know
Now silent and stillness come
There are times to change and to grow

I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it the moment you were born
I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it when you were born

You know I cried my heart out
At the love that poured from you
Your song drowned all of my doubts
I never knew love could be so true

And I see you in her caring arms
With her smile so tender and bright
Full of care and beautiful charms
I’ll sing you a song for every night

I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it the moment you were born
I heard sweet music in the hospital
I heard it when you were born

Paris

24. Paris

When the darkness of my soul tried to pull me through
I was brought back around to the warmth of you
But there was so much I feared as you drew me near
And I was calmed by the love in your eyes

And I knew down in my soul
These times will pass
Though the fire turns to coal
These times will pass, yes they’ll pass

Loneliness holds my heart and rules my songs
But it is in you that I see the rights to my wrongs
And your love will sustain me, that much is clear
I want to fill my mind with thoughts of you and I

And I knew down in my soul
These times will pass
Though the fire turns to coal
These times will pass, yes they’ll pass

I’ve wondered long and hard, thought of God and the frost
And forgot all the things that I lost
Cos I gained the greatest gift when it was your love I found
Now all I can do is make a happy sound

And I vow to you my life and my being
You are the sum of all of my dreams
And through the grace we’ve been blessed
It’ll be in Paris that we’ll rest

And I knew down in my soul
These times will pass
Though the fire turns to coal
These times will pass, yes they’ll pass

December Lullaby

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 20, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

23. December Lullaby

Whilst I walked down the street one cold night
What seemed like an age ago
I saw the snow fall down in the soft light
Of the old roadway lamps
With the noisy sound of screech owl’s fight
Of silliness and of fright
I wondered past with a laugh as I walked out of sight

Oh, may the warmth of a mother’s love
Keep you safe from any fear
May she bring you happiness and grace
Whenever she holds you near

And as I kept on with my head down
I whistled a familiar song
All the lights were bright in the town
Full of spirit and joy
But then the North wind howled like a hunting hound
And I just held my ground
I wrote you this little lullaby full of sights and sound

And may the blessing that I pray
Fill your heart with delight
May they bless you and your mother, dear
As you find your sleep tonight

Melancholy

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 20, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

22. Melancholy

I’ve got a heartache since this Winter past
I look out to nothing that ever seems to last
Perhaps I am blinded by what I can’t see
Broken bones and hidden scars of this melancholy

About every weekend I lock myself away
I know all the good times that will only fade
But delusions of grandeur, they won’t faze me
I stay right here, overcome with this melancholy

I don’t know what else I could do
This poet tries to remain true
But she’ll always be out of my league
So I curl up in this melancholy

A pawn for the king, that’s all we really are
Count all the failed wishes on a falling star
Perhaps we were wrong, it’s not so lovely
When it’s so easy to find all this melancholy

I don’t know what else I could do
This poet tries to remain true
But she’ll always be out of my league
So I curl up in this melancholy

By Starlight & Moonlight

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 20, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

21. By Starlight & Moonlight

I feel like an alien from another planet
Everyone else here is so different from me
And I want to get home
Where there are others like me
But that will never happen
Not in my longest lifetime
I have that feeling inside my heart
And there’s nothing I can do
Nothing I can do

By starlight and moonlight
I work in the only medium I know
There is a fire in my soul
That only one other could ever quench
And I know where she is
But I’m far ahead of her in space and time
And there’s nothing I can do
Nothing I can do

I speak to the darkness that’s inside of me
Trying to overcome it with dying light
And I pity the lost, for they know not the way
I escape through a craft that bears my soul
And shows all that is going on within me
But only by starlight and moonlight
I find my path in this life I lead
And there’s nothing I can do
Nothing I can do

Fool

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 19, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

20. Fool

What can I say? What is really true?
What can I try? What can I do for you?
You are a special one, I see
And you are a first for me
Yes you are

I want to see you’re lovely face
And cherish your heart and soul
Oh, would you be my saving grace?
For you, would you let me be a fool?

I’m desperate for you’re love
I’ve looked down below and high above
There’re many things left unseen
But you’re in my very dreams
Yes you are

I want to see you’re lovely face
And cherish your heart and soul
Oh, would you be my saving grace?
For you, would you let me be a fool?

I’ve never known anyone
But if I were with you I’d be done
And I’d fall in love with you, dear
You’re my shining star on a midnight clear
Yes you are

I want to see you’re lovely face
And cherish your heart and soul
Oh, would you be my saving grace?
For you, would you let me be a fool?

In A Dark, Silent Night

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 19, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

19. In A Dark, Silent Night

“So near, yet so far away”
It’s been said before
And it’s so cliché
But it’s so forgettable
As I don’t want to stay
I want to go
Travel far away
And leave all this behind
Behind, with nothing to say
In a dark, silent night

In a dark, silent night
All things take their toll
But only the poet remains
Eyes dark as coal
No more money, only love
Something that can’t be stole
These words mean nothing to you
There’s only one way to be made whole
So why would I want the world
Only to lose my soul?

Thrive

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 19, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

18. Thrive

I’m glad God is more forgiving than me
For it’s hard to forgive myself
There’s been a lot of wrong done that I can see
And it’s all bad for my health

Sometimes I wonder if this is all worth it
But I have to banish the thought
And try to overcome all of the regret
To open my eyes to see what I got

Without love, I know I cannot survive
So that’s why I sought it so hard
Without hope, I wouldn’t be able to thrive
I want love to pour from my heart

I abandon all hate and greed
And embrace love and truth
For love really will set us free
And it makes all the old new

So, perhaps it is worth the pain
This simple life I delve in
And I know as sure as the rain
That all my sins are forgiven

Spirit Of Hope

Posted in Songs & Poetry on January 19, 2012 by Joe Glasgow

17. Spirit Of Hope

Forget about your fears, my girl
You’ve got a spirit that’ll dance and swirl
You’re a special one – that I can see
So won’t you come and run off with me?

Oh we can do anything, my love
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
So don’t give it a second thought
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
You know we’re bless from above
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
And we’ll give it all one more shot
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope

You’re a special one, my sweet
The kind of woman I like to meet
A certain charm and heart that gleams
I know you can make it through anything

Oh we can do anything, my love
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
So don’t give it a second thought
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
You know we’re bless from above
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
And we’ll give it all one more shot
Cos we’ve got a spirit of hope
