Posted in Songs & Poetry on 10/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow15. The Sabbath Day
I can’t help but feel I’ve gone astray
Somewhere I just lost my way
And I was too proud to tell you
The many things I knew to be true
I would often look and search
But there’s something about a church
That rejuvenates my soul again
Takes away all of my dreaded pain
So often I can’t help but feel wrong
But I miss the sounds and hymnal songs
And I miss seeing you every Sunday night
Watching you sing is a beautiful sight
I could talk to you for hours on end
Look at you as a love as well as a friend
When I look into your eyes – oh, heaven above
I know what I feel is no fleeting love
Your faith inspires me, it transforms me
Makes me better, allows me to finally see
That faith is not only for the Sabbath Day
Your love always shows me the way

“Only For You”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 10/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow14. Only For You
Can I have an honest word with you?
There’s something I must say and do
It’s been keeping me up when I should sleep
And it’s a secret I don’t want to keep
The God honest truth is this, hun’
I’ve been in love with you since day one
And you’ve always been on my mind
Becoming a light that leaves the past behind
And I have a feeling that’s so great
I firmly believe we are soul mates
You’re the only girl I can think of
Oh may God bless us with peace and love
I’m mellow, never been that wild
I’d place your needs and those of your child
Far ahead of my own, I’ll give you my all
And I promise you I’ll try to never fall
If you could take me just as I am
I’ll forever be your own loving man
Within my heart this love wells
What do you say, my dear? Do tell…

“Twenty-Six Going On Eighty-Seven”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 10/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow13. Twenty-Six Going On Eighty-Six
One two three four five six seven
I can only hope I go to heaven
But from ninety-eight through ninety-nine
I was living on borrowed time
From oh-one to the present day
Death has never been that far away
It’s like I’m decaying outside in
Perhaps it’s payment for past sin?
I was a man who once was in youth
Now I’m old – and that’s the truth
I don’t look it, but I’m of a great age
And my life’s story turns another page
Twenty-six going on eighty-six
This old dog learns more tricks
That allows me to survive this place
But you can’t see the pain in my face
Perhaps love could save this soul
But maybe those are the thoughts of a fool
Who’s outlived his usefulness here
Ever since he learned to overcome fear

“Hey, Junky!”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 10/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow12. Hey, Junky!
Hey, Junky! Where do you go
Well, don’t you even know?
You look so all alone
Every time you get stoned
Hey, Junky! Get out of the road
But you’re knocked out loaded
Lying back looking to the sky
With them yellow, blood-shot eyes
Hey, Junky! Why look so down
You were born in the poor part of town
No hope, no way to ever out
From under the shadow of a doubt
Hey, Junky! Need a helping hand?
I may not completely understand
But what help can I be
Or have you become too blind to see
Hey, Junky! You did good for a while
But then you fell back into that lifestyle
Where you’re at, no one really knows
But you’re end up where you’re to go

“Marriage”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 10/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow11. Marriage
You’ve said it for a while now
At how you could get a man
Who’ll buy the cow in the age of free milk
But darling, you got to understand
I’ve been ready and willing to be that man
I grew cynical over the idea
That marriage could survive
But I see the future every time
I look into your lovely dark eyes
And I know what it means to be alive
Love is shown through actions
And words can never be right in telling
What it’s like to be in love at all
But marriage is a special something
It doesn’t matter if we’d ever wear silly rings
I don’t want to live in sin
I want blessing upon you and me
This is beyond physical attraction
It’s something spiritual, you see
And I know in my heart love will set us free
Maybe your mother won’t mind
I know she’s a wonderful mother
Keep the event small and intimate
Cos bigger isn’t always better
But it’s up to you, do what you see better
And in the end we’ll find
That God is always right
Man was not meant to be alone
I love you, girl, more than this life
Let’s get married under the Summer’s light

“Single Living”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 09/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow10. Single Living
I was having fun being single
Always ready to mingle
Never really knowing what’s ahead
Not even having a real homestead
Single living suited me well
Though it was like a road to hell
But I kept doing what I was doing
Going where the flow was going
And I used to get a kick out of this
The Lonesomeness used to be bliss
And now it kills me when we’re apart
You’re a perfect picture of God’s art
Girl, you’ve taken my solitary life
And turned it from darkness to light
I’ve grown tired from being alone
Now I await your call by the phone
You’ve completely shattered me
And you’ve totally conquered me
I want to live my life with you, my darling
Com I’m utterly through with single living

“Dark Eyes”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 09/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow9. Dark Eyes
Dark eyes may find you
Sharpened eyes will spot you
But you got to carry on
Though hope seems gone
I’ve wandered into the darkest holes
To see into the depths of my soul
Trying to understand the night
Through the darkness, not the light
Soul searching, it’s a strange thing
You never know what it may bring
Fate has a way to make it strange
Keeping dreams far out of range
Within my grasp I see them fall
And from full speed I quickly stall
Only to find a wilderness or sorts
With no form of comfort
I’d ask for you to leave a little light on
Out here somewhere for me to come upon
But no one’s out here, no one but me
And it’s desolation row that I see
But all I can do is just carry on
Keeping my focus on the horizon
Waiting for the sun to rise
Watching for those dark eyes

“Capitol Law”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 09/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow8. Capitol Law
I usually was on the right side of the law
But that path was one heading for a fall
When I opened my eyes and saw authority
Really had no apparent wisdom to see
I’m not that political, it’s the truth
And I’m not the picture of ideal youth
But I’m a voice of the Working Class
Waiting for the good time to come to pass
In the Capitol, no one really cares
About the people, what is and isn’t fair
They just want power and fame
Where everyone will know their name
Money is all that powers this land
And I don’t think we’ll ever understand
But I’m looking forward to a day in the future
When money will no longer have a number
Until love and justice reign, we’ll never see it
That’s why my feelings will never be a secret
I don’t care about Government’s unjust laws
I really don’t care for them at all

“Spouse’s Bane”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 09/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow7. Spouse’s Bane
A topic I don’t know about at all
So why am I talking about it?
Well, just observations are all I got
There are many things to name
Which prove to be a spouse’s bane
Petty arguments and silly threats
Will only lead to pain and regret
It’s not all poetry and flowers
And it’s growth by the hour
The union is the creation of something new
It’s spiritually becoming one from two
But sometimes there is strife
Husband argues with the wife
However it’s a natural thing, I guess
I never understood it, but it can be a mess
What’s seen as trouble can be a blessing
Helps one spouse come to understanding
As to know how the other feels and sees
Allowing us to nourish thoughts and needs
It’s true that love can overcome all odds
Especially when planted in the love of God
So let us never take if for granted again
Never referring to it as a spouse’s bane

“What’s Going On”
Posted in Songs & Poetry on 09/02/2010 by Joe Glasgow6. What’s Going On
Sometimes I wonder who I am
When I don’t seem to understand
I tried to know what there was to know
But all I could do was go!
What’s going on?
Some heavy stuff’s going down
It’s gonna go and bring you down
I almost killed a guy in a fight
But no one was in the right!
So what’s going on?
You took a job and now you’re not happy
How’s it feel to be a slave to money?
Taking it out on a blog and junk
When you’re no longer a punk!
Out in the darkest gloom of the darkest night
I’m prowling the streets while you’re sleeping tight
Doing what I do and doing it good
But I don’t do what I should!
Oh, what’s going on?
